In 2007, Nick and his father Torkom (84 yrs old at the time), inspired by their love of entertaining outdoors and cooking shish kabob on natural charcoal, set out to design an automatic shish kabob rotisserie.
Tired of standing over a hot grill to constantly turn the skewers by hand, they knew there had to be an easier way. In search of an “easier way”, they set out to build an “automatic” shish kabob rotisserie grill where the skewers would all turn automatically, simultaneously and cook food perfectly all around. They also wanted it to be easily adaptable to most open top grills. So with Torkom’s extensive mechanical engineering background and Nick’s vision and design, they built several prototypes, with each unit came an improvement in the overall design, ease of use and durability. After 12 prototypes and content with their final design, they patented their new design. Hence, they accomplished what they set out to do, and KabobMaster BBQ Grills was born.
The original KabobMaster was 31” long and carried 10 skewers rotating at 3 rpm, and is still available today.
In 2008, when several restaurant owners approached KabobMaster and requested larger capacity machines for use in their restaurants to improve their quality of food and reduce labor costs, Nick decided to increase the lengths of their rotisseries and add larger motors, to accommodate the lucrative restaurant and catering demand. They eventually designed 5 more sizes of rotisseries.
Sadly, in March 2013, Torkom passed away. Today Nick and his son Torkom Jr. manage the company, still seeking to add enhancements to their existing rotisserie line, to make what is already a great cooking experience for consumers, an even better one!
